Using Oberlo & Shopify, Ross Madden sold over $200,000 worth of this one product

Oberlo is a great platform for drop-shipping using Shopify and today we go over 5 products Ross Madden recommends for beginners.

Also, we share the products he sold to make over $200,000 in sales.

He started back in August 2017, and he tried 5-6 different drop-shipping stores and most of them weren’t working.

Ross read so many success stories and knew that he could get something working, continued to try different products and audiences. Perseverance is key and if he quit after his 1st or 2nd, or even 3rd or 4th stores, he would have ended the whole thing right before he achieved success!

Reading blogs, watching videos, studying success stories, are among the activities he recommends as the best way to learn how to make money drop-shipping.

What Product Did He Sell 30,000 orders in his First Year

Charcoal Teeth Whitening Products!

This was his big hit product and advertised first in English to the Top 5 English speaking countries (listed below).

Then he decided to target Italy, Spain, Germany and other countries. He used Google Trends and typed in “white Teeth” or “charcoal powder” and find out which countries have a high search volume for the keywords.

Once he found the Top 5-10, he would use Google Translate to translate the ad copy and use the same ads to target these foreign markets.

Six months into selling this product, he introduced cross-selling using a popup which triggers users to buy a toothbrush along with their charcoal teeth whitening product that they are already in the process of buying.

He speaks on return customers, and said he targets new, impulse buyers, and doesn’t really focus on repeat buyers with his drop-shipping business. There is such a high volume of people out there, you can always find new customers. Although we at Profit Friend, highly recommend also continuing to target your customer base to take advantage of repeat buyers without having to spend more on advertising.

For 2019, Ross recommends selling these 5 products

Product #1: Scratch Map

This is a simple map of the world that you scratch whatever countries you’ve visited. Ross thinks it will sell well as its a generally appealing item which can please a wide audience.

For advertising, he recommends initially testing a big audience and then select different demographics within it, people who like gym, people who like pets, etc and then mix and match and see which ones work.

After this, he lets the Facebook pixel do the work and target lookalike audience once you get purchase data.

He found a lot of his success on Instagram, and suggests going to big Travel accounts like @hostelworld and following their accounts. This will, in turn, get their followers to see that you followed them and sometimes, check out your profile with the link to the scratch map in it. He also says to like and engage with these followers to help build up your account.

This product is a great gift as well so it definitely has some potential.

Product #2: Glass Sphere

Very interesting, a glass ball? Well, it’s actually a photography gimmick that inverts the image.

It goes back to the whole Instagram market being a great target. This glass sphere helps make cool photos that people can use to take cool photos and post on their own Instagram accounts. You can find photographers on the platform who aren’t well known and say “Hey [name], I really want you to join ur time, We looked at your profile. We think you’d suit our promotions really well. We want you to try our products and let us know what you think.”

Then you send the product to them and get them to tag your business account in the photos. You will get social proof, great photos for your product, and potential referrals to your website for new customers from their social circles.

Product #3: Fidget Cube

This is another impulse buy and although it seems like a hype product which has passed its time, Ross says to go check the stats on AliExpress and see that it’s still selling very well.

He recommends selling products like these that are impulse buys under $10.

A strategy he says he would do is design a whole fidget website around this product and include other fidget type products along with this fidget cube.

He usually picks products based on himself and what he likes. He is a big gamer so he uses targeting like gamers, also he uses Google Trends and see which countries to target along with more information like keywords, “fidget”, “cube”, “toys”, etc.

Countries he targets are English speaking, Top 5 United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, places where people have high consumer buying power.

Since the fidget cube is on decline trend-wise, there may be countries you discover like Spain, and use Spanish language ads to target those customers.

Product #4: Window Sticker

Waterproof rear view side mirror sticker is the next product he recommends for targeting wide audiences and get them in with this product pitching the “safety” benefits. And then later targeting them with upsells and follow-ups of other products. He called this a “Lead Loss” product so you can get them into your beautiful website and get them to buy other products that you have a higher margin on.

“Swipe Up” to buy, target Instagram users and make Story ads and Feed ads, low priced buys can trigger impulse buys for social media shoppers.

Product #5: Key Finder

This unique product is similar to Tile and it locates your keys or wallet, your dog, whatever you attach it to. If you lose something, you can trigger it from your phone, and it will beep to let you know it’s location.

He would sell this for $7.99 + free shipping, and aim to make a $3 profit per product, and try to get it to 200 sales a day.

Tip for Impulse Buy: Sell for Under $10

Ross also recommends to Buy the Product yourself and test it out before you list it.

Lastly, he says to study your own buying habits and sell to your friends as practice initially
