How to Make $1000 a Month with Youtube – 3 Simple Ways

Sean Cannell shares solid advice from a seminar he did about how to monetize your videos on Youtube.

Believe it or not, Youtube Ads is the least favorite way and one of the lower income generating methods he recommends!

Some of the examples he shares include James Beatties channel catering to the eCommerce crowd:

This channel makes $1k+ per month just from Youtube Ads, its smallest income source.

He mentions that while James generates over $1000 per month with Youtube Ads, this is only 3 percent of the total income made from his YouTube channel!

1. Youtube Ads

In the example above, and in this following example he shares from Stone Coat Countertops, which does about 10 million views per month, Youtube Ads are used to generate revenue:

Stone Coat Countertops is estimated to make at least $20,000 – $80,000 per month from Youtube Ads

While attaining 10,000,000 monthly views seems unattainable for most, Sean mentions that its absolutely not necessary to get this amount of views to be able to make a decent living from Youtube. Although if you are aiming to only make revenue from Youtube Ads, you may be leaving a lot of money on the table.

Keep in mind that in order to qualify for Youtube revenue, you need to first have at least 4000 hours of watch time which is 240,000 minutes or the equivalent of getting 80,000 views on a 3 minute video (assuming that they watch the entire video and don’t skip any parts). You also need to have 1000 subscribers. Once you hit this threshold of 1k subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time reached, you can qualify and apply for monetization of your videos.

Here’s the math for Youtube Ads that Sean uses:

If you get paid $2 CPM (that’s $2 for every 1000 views, you will make $160 from 80,000 views.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Adding links in your description to affiliate programs such as Amazon Associates, Clickbank, ShareASale, Commission Junction, JV Zoo or even something like the Ali Express Affiliate Program can be an incredible way of boosting your earnings and getting more bang for buck from each of your viewers.

By recommending relevant products, software, and services to your viewers, you can capitalize off of the warmed up customer who has just been “sold” on the offer from your video and directed towards an affiliate link of yours where you get a cut or commission from the sale.

There are many affiliate programs available online, including travel, flight, hotel booking, and even appointments booked for services can offer you a commission on each lead you send.

If you cant find an affiliate offer in your niche, you can also reach out to companies and work with them to create your own offer where you agree on a percentage that you will receive from every lead, e-mail signup, or sale you send them.

3. Your Own Product or Service

Possibly the most profitable solution for you is directing the traffic and viewers you get to your videos, to your own website which has your own product or service.

This is done very easily by placing your website in the description of the video and mentioning to the users during the video that they can visit your website to find out more info and signup for your product or service.

You have ultimate control over the pricing and you build relationships with your customers and build a contact database including their e-mails and phone numbers so you can always send them future products and services or anything you currently have that can be a great complimentary addition to whatever they are already buying.

For example, let’s say you make custom dog socks and you sell a pair to a customer. You now have a person who has purchased a product from you and you have built trust and delivered a quality product. Either at the time you are selling the initial dog socks, or after they have received it, you can give them an offer for 50% off a custom dog collar.

Bonus – Sponsorships

An interesting benefit of having a Youtube channel which Sean mentions is the potential for sponsorship from brands you love.

The case study he refers to is Postal Barbecue:

Postal Barbecue gets free meat sponsorship for his part time Youtube channel

While only doing Youtube part time, the owner of Postal Barbecue is able to generate a couple of extra dollars with Youtube Ads, however, a great side effect of having his channel is his free meat sponsorship!

Imagine getting free products or services in an industry you’re passionate about all for simply making videos about the things you love!
